WHAT IS FULL RECOGNITION?

1. What is Full Recognition?

Within the scope of Erasmus+ Student Mobility for Studies, full recognition refers to the recognition of the learning activity carried out by a student abroad as an integral part of the student's educational programme at their home higher education institution.

The courses determined in the Learning Agreement before the mobility and successfully completed by the student abroad must be fully recorded in the student's academic records after the mobility. Ensuring that the student does not suffer any academic or other loss as a result of the mobility is essential.

2. How is Full Recognition Ensured?

The courses taken by the student abroad and included in the Learning Agreement are recorded in the student's transcript together with their original course titles and ECTS credits.

The correspondence and recognition status of the courses taken during the mobility within the student's study programme are determined in accordance with the Learning Agreement prepared before the mobility. If changes are made to the courses during the mobility period, the updated Learning Agreement is taken as the basis.

The student's Erasmus+ mobility and the courses completed during the mobility should be clearly identifiable in the student's Transcript of Records and Diploma Supplement, including the higher education institution where the courses were taken.

3. Recording in the Transcript and Diploma Supplement

Courses successfully completed by the student abroad are recorded in their academic records using the original course titles and ECTS credits. The student's participation in an Erasmus+ mobility and the higher education institution where the courses were taken are also clearly indicated in the Transcript of Records and Diploma Supplement.

FULL RECOGNITION PROCESS

Academic recognition in Erasmus+ Student Mobility for Studies refers to the process of recognizing the courses taken by the student abroad as equivalent to courses at TOGÜ and recording them in the student's Transcript of Records.

Academic recognition and course matching are carried out by the Erasmus+ Office in accordance with the European Commission's ECTS Users' Guide (ECTS Guide) and the Erasmus+ rules applicable to the relevant academic year.

A. BEFORE THE MOBILITY

1. Determining the Courses

The student determines the courses they can take at the host institution in coordination with the Departmental Erasmus+ Coordinator.

The Departmental Erasmus+ Coordinator and the relevant departmental committee are authorized to determine which courses taken at the host institution will be recognized as equivalent to which courses at TOGÜ.

2. Checking ECTS Credits

Students are expected to take:

  • 30 ECTS credits for a single semester,

  • 60 ECTS credits for two semesters

abroad.

A workload of 30 ECTS credits for one semester may be accepted within a range of ±5 ECTS credits at the discretion of the department.

The total ECTS credits taken abroad and the total ECTS credits of the courses recognized as equivalent at TOGÜ should normally be equivalent. However, a difference of up to 5 ECTS credits between the total ECTS workloads on the two sides may be accepted.

B. DURING THE MOBILITY

3. Changes to Courses

If the student needs to change courses at the host institution, the changes must be made in accordance with Erasmus+ rules and the approval procedures of the relevant institutions.

As a result of the course changes, the student's course matching at TOGÜ must also be reassessed.

4. Updating Course Matching

If a course change is made, the courses newly taken by the student and their corresponding courses at TOGÜ are reassessed by the Departmental Erasmus+ Coordinator and the relevant departmental committee.

Following the completion of the required approvals, the updated course matching is taken as the basis for academic recognition.

C. AFTER THE MOBILITY

5. Submission of the Transcript of Records and Preparation of the Course Recognition Form (Exemption Petition)

After completing the mobility, the student submits the Transcript of Records issued by the host higher education institution to both the Erasmus+ Office and the Departmental Erasmus+ Coordinator.

The student prepares the Course Recognition Form (Exemption Petition) together with the Departmental Erasmus+ Coordinator. The completed petition is submitted to the department secretariat, and a decision is taken by the relevant administrative board to ensure the recognition of the student's courses.

In cases where direct course equivalence cannot be established, credit matching between courses may be carried out at the discretion of the relevant department.

Important: The Departmental Erasmus+ Coordinator and the relevant departmental committee have the final authority regarding the appropriateness of course matching and determining which course will be recognized as equivalent to which course.

6. Conversion of Grades into the TOGÜ Grading System

Grades obtained for courses taken abroad are converted into the TOGÜ grading system.

If the host university uses the ECTS grading system, the ECTS – TOGÜ Grade Conversion Table published by the Erasmus+ Office is used for grade conversion.

If the host institution uses a local grading system other than the ECTS grading system, the local grading system of the host university and its grade conversion table are taken as the basis.

7. Recording Courses in the Transcript

Courses successfully completed by the student abroad are recorded in the TOGÜ Transcript of Records together with:

  • The original course code used by the host institution,

  • The original course title,

  • ECTS credits,

  • The local credits of the course recognized as equivalent at TOGÜ.

The grades obtained abroad are also converted into the TOGÜ local grading system and recorded in the transcript.

9. Matching One Course with More Than One Course

If a single course taken abroad is recognized as equivalent to two or more courses at TOGÜ, the local credits of the equivalent courses are added together and recorded in the student's transcript.
